Description
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to water and wastewater systems
Install new water lines, taps, and meters
Read and record water meter readings
Perform street maintenance and repairs, including patching streets, laying asphalt, and pouring concrete
Secure work zones with barricades, barrels, and appropriate signage
Repair and replace street signs and poles as needed
Perform parks and grounds maintenance, including mowing, weed eating, trimming shrubbery, raking leaves, chipping debris, and trash removal
Clean drainage ditches and culverts
Apply herbicides and pesticides
Perform routine maintenance for City buildings
Perform regular maintenance on the City Splash Pad
Operate hand tools, power tools, small to heavy equipment, and City vehicles
Drive trucks and equipment of various sizes and weights to load, haul, and unload materials such as gravel, sand, concrete, asphalt, and equipment
Inspect equipment and perform preventative maintenance and repairs
Assist with City-sponsored special events
Perform animal control duties in the absence of an Animal Control Officer, including removal of deceased animals from roadways, capturing stray animals, and transporting animals to the shelter
Perform all duties in accordance with applicable safety and security standards and policies
Ensure compliance with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education and Eligibility
Must be a United States citizen or provide legal documentation authorizing employment in the U.S.
Must be at least 18 years of age
High school graduate or possession of a GED
Licensing and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Must obtain either a Class “D” Water or Wastewater License issued by TCEQ within one (1) year of hire and obtain both licenses within eighteen (18) months as a condition of employment
Must maintain all required TCEQ licenses as a condition of employment
Work Schedule
Must be available to work Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Closed on Fridays; however, overtime, on-call duty, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required
Physical and Environmental Requirements
Ability to operate machinery, tools, and equipment
Ability to work in confined spaces
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and push, pull, or move objects exceeding 75 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, smell, talk, and hear for extended periods
Ability to work primarily outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must pass a background check, physical examination, and drug screening
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of water and sewer systems
Experience operating specialized equipment such as a backhoe, tractor, skid steer, or similar equipment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Operation and maintenance of power-driven equipment
Water and wastewater distribution and collection systems
Public works operations and responsibilities
General construction, maintenance, and repair methods
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to:
Work independently with minimal supervision
Perform skilled construction and maintenance tasks
Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English
Maintain punctuality and regular attendance
Operate a computer and basic office equipment
Perform multiple tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment
Adapt to changing priorities and work extended hours when required
Interact professionally with the public and coworkers
Work effectively under stress and meet deadlines
Learn new skills and techniques
Maintain required licenses and certifications
Follow City and departmental policies, rules, and procedures
Salary: $18.00- $22.00 DOQ
