Description
The Information and Innovation Services Department of the North Central Council of Governments (NCTCOG) seeks a skilled Data Analyst to support workforce development initiatives in an inter-departmental role. In this capacity, you will analyze labor market trends by industry and occupation and report key findings in useful ways. Your work will directly influence workforce development strategies and serve to:
- Align training with labor market demand.
- Guide workforce investment.
- Support regional economic development.
- Inform career planning for job seekers.
- Promote efficient use of public resources.
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Familiarity with state and federal legislation related to workforce development
- Thorough understanding of labor market dynamics (supply/demand, wage trends, sectoral shifts) and macroeconomic indicators (unemployment, GDP, inflation)
- Experience working with labor market databases and information systems (e.g., BLS, BEA, Census, O*NET, Lightcast, JobsEQ, VOS)
- Understanding of statistical methods (descriptive and inferential), including appropriate application and interpretation of results
- Proficiency in analyzing industries, occupations, and training/skills patterns to provide actionable insights
- Ability to communicate key findings clearly and professionally to stakeholders, policymakers, and the public in a variety of formats
- Ability to interpret specific inquiries from an array of requestors and respond by providing appropriate, detailed information
- Demonstrated initiative, responsibility, analytical thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams or external partners
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Adept to working across various domains and navigating ambiguity
- Highly disciplined, proactive, and responsible, as much of the work requires focus for long periods of time with limited supervision
Desired Skills:
- Excel expertise (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, charts, formulas, and functions)
- SQL for querying relational databases
- Scripting (e.g. Python)
- Use of APIs to pull data from external sources
- Business intelligence and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- Workflow automation tools (e.g., Power Automate)
- Esri ArcGIS Pro and extensions including Network Analyst, Statistical Analyst, and Business Analyst
- Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, business, sociology, data science, analytics, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Highly qualified candidates with formal education in a non-technical field will also be considered.
At least three years of experience in labor market analysis, economic research, workforce planning, or comparable areas.
Starting Salary:
FLSA: Exempt
$74,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience
