- Reserve Police Officer
Description
Patrol the City of Somerset to aid in preventing crime and to enforce Federal, state, and local laws on rotating shifts.
Patrol police duties; protecting life and property; enforcing laws and ordinances; and performing other duties as assigned.
Check buildings, enforce traffic laws, assist other Officers, make arrests when applicable, transport arrestees, and investigate crime(s).
Provide information to the public in emergency and non-emergency situations.
Enforce traffic regulations, direct traffic, and investigate and makes detailed reports of traffic accidents.
Conduct investigations on assaults, sexual offenses, stolen vehicles, thefts, burglaries, etc. and locate and interrogate suspects and interview witnesses.
Administer first aid and request appropriate medical and Fire Dept. response.
Educate the public on laws and ordinances; assist citizens with complaints and inquiries.
Appear in court and be available to testify in matters that the Officer has knowledge of.
Maintain records for investigations and prepare detailed offense and incident reports.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

7) Final Selection/Recommendation to City Administrator, Mayor and City Council for Appointment as a Reserve Somerset Police Officer
The Somerset Police Department strives to hire full-time Officers from within the Reserve Division, as every current full-time Somerset PD Officer originally served as a Somerset PD Reserve Officer.
Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school or General Education Development; must have current TCOLE Peace Officer License in good standing.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of applicable Federal, state and local laws and ordinances
Knowledge of proper care and use of firearms
Knowledge of law enforcement techniques and procedures
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to perform duties that may include effecting arrest, subduing resisting individuals, chasing fleeing subjects and running, walking crouching, or crawling during emergency operations
Ability to communicate with diverse groups of individuals using tack and diplomacy
Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports.
Ability to work with the public in a courteous respectful manner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical requirements include carrying/lifting 50 lbs ; visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate police vehicles with emergency equipment, mobile radios, hand-held radios, cameras, audio visual equipment, telephone, computer keyboard, basic office equipment, radar equipment and both lethal and non-lethal weapons, rifles, shotguns, and baton; subject to carrying, lifting, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, running and climbing to perform essential job functions.
