Description

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Operates a sanitation truck and/or roll-off truck to collect residential and commercial waste including trash, brush, litter and bulky items.
• Learn and follow assigned routes; read street maps and routes to locate route destinations.
• Reports damaged dumpsters, missing lids or bottoms, and need welding to the Administrative Technician.
• Perform basic vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair prior to use on a daily basis to ensure that it is in proper operating condition.
• Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing and checking belts, hoses, air, oil, gas and other fluids.
• Dump collected trash at designated dump sites/landfill.
• Picks up trash daily at the landfill and outside of gate areas.
• Make decisions whether to pick up trash that is set out improperly.
• Follow safety rules.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED certificate.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Must posses required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Must live within a thirty (30) minute travel time from workstation or be able to meet this requirement within (6) months of employment.
• Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of City geography, including street and road names.
• Knowledge of how to operate and perform minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Skill in operating a sanitation truck.
• Skill in defensive driving techniques.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
