POSITION OVERVIEW
This position reports to the Assistant Finance Director. Strong financial accounting background is required to handle the processing of financial transactions, including research, analysis, reconciliations, and to serve as the departmental lead in all areas of accounting and operating activities. Work with parties internally and externally to resolve issues and respond to financial requests. Perform oversight functions and reconciliations by inputting data into the city’s financial system, compiling reports, and presenting data. Participate in the evaluation and design of internal and external workflow and processes, and complete special projects as assigned by Financial Services management. Regular and timely attendance at work is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serves as the lead in all financial accounting transactions for the City;
- Provides high levels of customer service in dealing with council, constituents, vendors and other governmental agencies;
- Recommends actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; studying proposed changes in methods and materials;
- Strives to increase productivity by streamlining accounting processes and coordinating information requirements;
- Independent thinker with a strong work ethic and internal motivation. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications and contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed;
- Coordinates, prepares and review financial and management reports such as bank reconciliations, investment account monitoring and audit responses.
- Provides support to internal and external departments related to financial activities. Must be able to investigate and resolve customer inquiries;
- Analyzes and reconciles daily and monthly cash activity;
- Prepares various regulatory reports, including monthly sales tax returns and quarterly comptroller reports
- Prepares audit schedules and respond to audit requests;
- Year-end processing and accruals;
- Maintains proper controls and procedures in processing accounting transactions;
- Processes and reviews accounting work assignments for accuracy and completeness, and
- Performs other duties as assigned and subject to 24-hour recall.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong technical aptitude with various software applications in order to handle data from multiple sources, primarily Excel and Outlook.
Technically adept in financial accounting with strong knowledge of the general ledger and full cycle accounting processes.
Ability to multi-task in a high volume fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently and follow up on issues.
Problem-solving skills, with attention to details and accuracy is required.
Strong time management and communication skills.
Must be team-oriented with the ability to think and act independently.
Ability to complete tasks on time and meet all established deadlines. \
Ability to type 30 wpm and 10-key touch.
Excellent organizational and documentation skills
