- SENIOR CUSTODIAN
Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, coordinate, supervise, and assist Custodians involved in cleaning and minor maintenance tasks of Eisemann Center event setup and/or breakdown. Weekend work required. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervise night-time custodial staff; when requested, supervise daytime shift during absence of Custodial Supervisor. Oversee scheduling and work assignments of night-time custodial staff. Train and assist Custodians in: operation of buffers; stripping and finishing floors; operating carpet/furniture shampoo machine; operating steam cleaning machine; dusting all areas of building and furniture; changing light bulbs. Assist in minor painting as needed. Assist with minor building repairs. Assist in setting up tables, chairs, dance floors, risers, stages, and related meeting room equipment; assist in breakdown and storage of same equipment. Drive to various city facilities to pick up supplies as needed. Understand and correctly implement verbal and written job instructions and written product warning labels. Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. Lift and carry up to 70 pounds of equipment. Pull, push, and/or drag up to 100 pounds of furniture and equipment. Stand, kneel, squat, stoop, and/or twist for extended periods of time while assisting in repairs or setups and breakdowns. Work in personnel lift to change change light bulbs and wash windows at heights up to forty feet. Some exposure to chemical, dust, mite, fume, and odor hazards, using proper safety precautions and equipment. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, the public, and officials. Work effectively as a team member. Utilize computer to access job schedules. Night and weekend work is required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Change vacuum belts and pads on both buffer and floor maintainer. Clean equipment; perform minor servicing and/or preventive maintenance on equipment. Answer telephone and take appropriate notes.
Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
High School Diploma or G.E.D required. Texas Drivers License, Class C required.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Three (3) years experience required in cleaning and caring for buildings. Two years experience required in supervising others. Must have: knowledge of cleaning chemicals, floor finishes and their application; skill and experience in performing minor repairs and painting; knowledge and understanding of warning labels. Must communicate courteously and effectively with others. Must be flexible and sensitive to clients’ needs.
