Description

The City of Schulenburg is currently seeking qualified applications for the position of Street Maintenance Operator to perform duties essential in operating and maintaining the City's Streets Waterways and other Facilities. Salary based off experience. 

        Must possess a Class A or B Valid Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one in one year. 

        Mechanical Skills a plus

        Welding and Fabrication a plus

        Must be able to maintain all equipment daily

        Ability to make 811 calls before digging holes, trenches, etc.

        Ability to communicate well with other departments, employees, and Supervision

        Ability to perform all work in a professional and timely manner

        Ability to work well with others that may be less or more experienced.

        Ability to be considerate to the public needs and request

DUTIES & RESPOSIBILITIES:

        Responsible for the day-to-day operations in the Street Department.

        Maintain and upkeep city streets, alleys, waterways, signs, and other facilities 

        Operation and maintenance of heavy equipment such as but not limited to dump trucks, front end loaders, backhoes, rollers, excavators, street sweeper, and tractor & shredder as well as small engine equipment (mowers, weed-eaters, sprayers, etc.)

        Operate and maintain city vehicle during working hours.

        Self-starting individual, who follows instructions, can take charge, shows initiative to see that routine and special projects are followed through and completed in a timely manner without continuous prompting.

        Requires a demonstrated ability to be dependable, organized, flexible and service oriented.

        Expected to be available for and report to work in a dependable and timely fashion.

        Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

        Work involves weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours from time to time

        Work requires response time within 60 minutes of designated service area

        Work involves exposure to various and sometimes extreme weather conditions

        Work involves exposure to high-speed rotating equipment

        Work requires use of protective equipment

        Work involves making small repairs to equipment

        Work involves servicing equipment

        Work involves lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.

        Work involves climbing ladders

        Work involves confined space entry

Requirements

High school graduate or its equivalent, plus at least (1) year of experience in operating equipment in construction field, Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain in one year, or equivalent of combination of experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical: Employee must be able to pass a physical examination and drug test given by a physician by the city.
