Performs telecommunications functions for the Rockdale Police Department. Receives and records emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requiring law enforcement, emergency medical service (EMS), or Fire; dispatches the appropriate department. Maintains logs for all calls and complaints; Utilizes programs and computer equipment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and emotional restraint to respond to the caller’s critical personal needs, while focusing on providing excellent customer service.

Function Description / Emergency Services Telecommunicator
Dispatch police services for the City of Rockdale
Dispatch Fire & Emergency medical service (EMS) for Southern Milam County
Receives and records incoming emergency and non-emergency calls on both the telephone and two-way radio including animal control, public works, and 911 calls
Answer 911 and cell phone calls for Southern Milam County Residents
Evaluates and directs non-emergency and emergency calls to appropriate staff, officers, and /or agencies
Enter, inquire, modify, cancel, clear, and send messages in the Texas and National Crime Information computer database system
Windows XP, Word, Excel, Fax, Copy Machine
Maintains logs for all calls and complaints
Operate Multi-Function Radio
Monitors radio frequencies of field response personnel
Multi - Tasking
Monitor Jail inmates via CC video; completes all court paperwork for arrestees
Files and pulls local warrants for officers when needed
Performs computer-assisted and manual records checks for officers on individuals, locations, vehicles, and other property, verifies warrants, suspended or expired license, or reports of stolen property with the originating agency;
Maintains, updates, and accesses various logs and computer data files of responder activities, including incident reports, accident reports, stolen or repossessed property logs, maps, shift logs, etc.
Performs data entry of logs, records, and report management system regarding officer activities, including traffic stops, suspicious vehicles, people, and incidents, ensuring officer safety
Operates recording equipment for 911 and telephone calls
Assists Deaf and hard-of-hearing persons using a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD)
Performs other department support related duties as assigned
Assists the general public with questions in person and over the phone, providing direction when needed
Works rotating shift work during days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; may be required to work extended shifts and cover open shifts with little to no notice; and will be subject to emergency callout
