Description
General Purpose:
Utility Clerk 1 performs routine clerical, secretarial, and administrative work in answering phones, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, cashiering, data processing, scanning and bookkeeping.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Receives the public and answer questions; responds to inquiries from employees, citizens and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons
Serve as cashier including receipting of utility payments and various other payment, and posting monies to appropriate accounts including preparing cash drawer reconciliation, and preparing daily deposit slips
Responsible for posting payments received, update customer accounts
Processing payments for and issuing garage sale permits
Assist Utility Supervisor as needed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of automated and manual record keeping.
Knowledge of business English, grammar and arithmetic.
Ability to communicate with the public and coworkers in an effective, professional and courteous manner.
Ability to operate standard office equipment (telephone, computers, copy machine, calculator and fax machine), computer and cash register as required to accomplish the work assigned.
Proficient with Excel and Word programs.
Will require a skills test on 10-key and keyboard typing
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to pull, push, or drag up to 50 pounds of materials and supplies; climb, crawl, kneel, squat, twist, stoop and sit for extended periods of time. Duties are performed in an office setting.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
