- Utility Line Locator
Description
The Utility Line Locator performs skilled fieldwork to locate and mark the Town’s water, sewer, and fiber utility lines.
The position assists with water main shutdowns and turn-ons and supports utility maintenance activities by
performing minor repairs to water mains and service lines as needed.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Locates underground City infrastructure by marking the location of utilities with flags and paint markings
including water lines, sewer lines, and traffic devices.
Reviews, compares, and analyzes construction as-builts, geographic information system, visual
inspection of area to be located.
Provides the best locate possible by utilizing all available data, specialized equipment, specialized
techniques, performing field measurements, and visible assessment of field assets.
Interfaces with other Town employees, contractors, and citizens.
Provides backup assistance, on-call coverage, and support to other crews and Town departments as
needed.
Travels to work sites, meetings, conferences, and training.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year of water, sewer, and construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
One (1) year of traffic signal experience preferred.
TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License preferred.
TCEQ Class II Wastewater Collection License preferred.
May be required to obtain additional licenses or certifications.
