- Water and Wastewater Operator
Description
Responsible for the proper operation of Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities by performing lab and process control tests, monitoring and maintaining equipment, inspecting lift stations, cleaning clarifiers, disposing of sludge, mowing plant and lift station grounds, and collecting data and samples in compliance with TCEQ guidelines.

JOB SUMMARY

-Operates and maintains process equipment.
-Inspects motors, pumps, generators, settling tanks, filters, chemical feed systems, and related equipment.
-Records readings and updates charts.
-Collects, preserves, and maintains chain of custody for lab samples.
-Collects, records, and prepares operating data for regulatory reporting.
-Performs basic process control tests, including DO, pH, and chlorine residual.
-Lubricates, dismantles, cleans, and reassembles parts and equipment.
-Troubleshoots and performs preventive maintenance on pumps, piping, and valves.
-Interprets lab results and adjusts plant processes to optimize efficiency.
-Trains and mentors new or less experienced employees.
-Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in water and wastewater system operation and maintenance. Must hold a valid Class “C” Water and Wastewater License or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Class C commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of activated sludge and wastewater treatment processes.
Knowledge of safe handling of hazardous chemicals (e.g., chlorine, sulfur dioxide).
Proficiency with tools and equipment commonly used in construction environments.
Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret manuals, policies, and procedures.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare clear, concise written reports.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently under stressful conditions.
Ability to meet all physical requirements of the job.
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Class “C” Water and Wastewater License (TCEQ).
Valid Texas Class C Commercial Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires carrying/lifting up to 40 lbs. and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs. Requires visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment. Work involves standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, and working in cramped or strained positions for extended periods.
