Full Salary Range for this position is $67,130 - $92,611 annually / Starting Rate DOQ
The City of Azle is looking for a compassionate, organized, and motivated leader to serve as our Animal Shelter Manager.
This position oversees the daily operations of the City’s animal shelter, including animal care, shelter operations, staff supervision, customer service, community partnerships, and regulatory compliance. We are seeking someone who is passionate about animal welfare, public service, and building positive relationships within the community.
What We’re Looking For:
Leadership and supervisory experience
Experience in animal shelter operations, animal control, or veterinary services
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to manage a fast-paced environment with professionalism and compassion
Responsibilities Include:
Supervising shelter staff and daily operations
Ensuring humane animal care and safe shelter practices
Overseeing intake, adoptions, and related shelter functions
Coordinating with rescue organizations and veterinary providers
Maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in animal shelter operations, animal control, veterinary services, or related field
Previous supervisory experience preferred
Valid Texas driver’s license required
Basic Animal Control Officer certification required or ability to obtain within required timeframe
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Work is performed in office, animal shelter environments, and in the field
Exposure to noise, odors, cleaning chemicals, animal waste, & potentially aggressive and diseased animals.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and restraining animals.
Ability to lift and carry objects or animals weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier loads.
May be exposed to hazardous conditions including bites, scratches, and zoonotic diseases.
