- Assistant City Manager
Description
The Assistant Cit y Manager serves as a key member of the City of Levelland’s executive
leadership team and works closely with the City Manager to oversee municipal operations,
implement organizational priorities, and support effective service delivery.
The ACM provides leadership and coordination across assigned departments, helping
department heads achieve operational goals while maintaining accountability to the City’s
overall strategic direction. The position serves as an important connection between the City
Manager and departments, promoting communication, collaboration, and consistent
organizational practices.
The ACM will also lead and support special projects, strategic initiatives, budget
development, and organizational improvement efforts. Experience in municipal finance and
budgeting is highly desirable. The position will prepare reports and recommendations, assist
with policy development and implementation, and represent the City with elected officials,
boards, community organizations, regional partners, and other stakeholders.
The successful candidate will bring a practical, collaborative approach to municipal
leadership and the ability to balance long-term organizational priorities with the day-to-day realities of providing exceptional services to the community.

heads, elected officials, and the community.
Under the direction of the City Manager, the new Assistant City Manager will assist in
overseeing, planning, directing, and coordinating City operations. The ACM will provide
leadership to assigned departments, support and lead department heads in achieving
organizational goals, and serve as a key link between the City Manager and departments. The
position will also lead and support special projects, participate in strategic and budget planning,
prepare reports and recommendations, and represent the City with elected officials, community
organizations, and other stakeholders.
EDUCATION
A bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Management, or a related
field is required.
EXPERIENCE
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible municipal government or public
administration experience is preferred.
Five (5) years of significant supervisory and organizational leadership experience, including
responsibility for personnel, budgets, strategic planning, municipal operations, or major projects, is
required.
A Certified Public Manager (CPM) certification may be credited as one (1) year of experience.
A Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree may be credited as two (2) years of experience.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong communication, organizational leadership, project management, problem-solving, and
interpersonal skills are essential. The successful candidate will be able to coordinate across
departments, manage competing priorities, develop practical recommendations, and support the City's strategic goals and service expectations.
