Join Our Team as a Full-Time Programming Technician!
Sterling Municipal Library is seeking an energetic and community-minded Full-Time Programming Technician to help create engaging experiences for children and families.
In this role, you’ll help plan and present Story Times, children's programs, and outreach activities. You'll work directly with children, families, educators, and community partners to deliver inviting programs and create connections between the library and the community!
Beyond programming, you’ll play a vital role in helping patrons navigate library services and technology, including public computers, printing, scanning, faxing, and digital resources. Strong tech skills and a commitment to exceptional customer service are essential for ensuring all visitors can fully access and enjoy our library’s offerings.

Provides customer service and technical assistance to the public while supporting daily library operations. Assists with programs, outreach activities, circulation services, and patron use of library resources and technology. Performs a variety of administrative, clerical, and public service duties to support the efficient delivery of library services.
Programming and Outreach
- Assist with planning and facilitating programs such as Story Times, children and family activities, youth and adult activities, outreach, makerspace, STEM, and special library programs.
- Create program materials, displays, and presentations that enhance participant engagement.
- Represent the library at community events, schools, daycare centers, and other outreach opportunities.
- Performs related programming duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Public Service
- Help patrons use public computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other library technology.
- Assist patrons with library accounts, circulation transactions, reference services, and general library services.
- Exhibits a strong commitment to positive customer service when working with all library patrons.
- Searches for materials requested by patrons, recommends substitutions to patrons or purchases to professional staff, performs readers’ advisory services.
- Shelves and organizes the library collections to ensure materials are accurately filed, accessible, and presented in an orderly manner.
- Performs related public service duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Required
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days)
- One year of related experience in a library or other customer service or community-centered environment.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Preferred
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Library Science, Child Development, Communications, or a related field.
- Experience working with children, families, and the public.
- Experience creating presentations, flyers, or program materials using Canva or similar tools.
- Bilingual skills: Spanish.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and common office technology.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate programming activities and reference materials for children.
- Sound judgment in addressing behavioral issues, including those related to mental health or policy violations, while maintaining a welcoming and safe library environment.
