Position Summary
The City of La Vernia is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Civil Construction Inspector to oversee and inspect capital improvement projects, public works, and development projects, including water, sewer, streets, and drainage improvements for compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and standards. This position plays a key role in supporting quality construction and successful project delivery.
The ideal candidate will have experience inspecting civil construction activities, communicating effectively with contractors and engineers, and maintaining accurate project documentation throughout all phases of construction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspect all aspects of Public Works Construction on capital improvement and development projects.
Ensure construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards, and specifications.
Communicate and coordinate with office personnel and contractors regarding scheduling, construction methods, public safety, and field problems.
Prepare and submit accurate, detailed inspection reports to City staff within 24 hours following each inspection.
Coordinate and review testing on water, sanitary sewer, concrete, and soils.
Inspector responsible for managing their schedule to ensure inspections are scheduled within 48 hours of request.
Maintain ‘as built’ conditions on field plans and review quantities for payment on capital improvement projects.
Work Environment
Fieldwork at active construction sites
Frequent interaction with contractors, engineers, and developers
Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active construction operations
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required;
Experience in civil construction inspection, public works, utility construction, engineering design, or related construction activities
Ability to accurately read and interpret civil construction plans and specifications.
Working knowledge of public safety and construction site safety requirements.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to maintain accurate inspection records and reports
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to local job sites
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in inspecting municipal infrastructure or public capital improvement projects
Familiarity with drainage, paving, water, wastewater, and roadway construction practices
Ability to review civil construction plans for field-related comments
