Description

The purpose of this position is to oversee the City’s financial reporting, treasury, grants management, and capital asset accounting functions to ensure the integrity of the City’s financial records and compliance with governmental accounting standards.

This position manages accounting operations across all City funds, including oversight of cash management and treasury activities, grant accounting and reporting, and capital asset management. The Controller ensures financial reporting complies with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

The position provides leadership and technical guidance to accounting staff and supports the Finance Director in maintaining strong internal controls and accurate financial reporting.

This position is subject to the City of Portland’s Background Investigation and Drug Testing Policy. New hires are required to provide proof of identity and legal authority to work in the United States per Federal law.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
