- Director of Intergovernmental Relations
Description
The City of Lancaster is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Intergovernmental Relations to lead the City’s legislative, governmental relations, and public policy efforts. This position represents the City’s interests before federal, state, regional, and local governmental entities; develops and advances the City’s legislative agenda; monitors proposed legislation and regulatory activity; and advises City leadership on governmental and policy matters.
The Director will build and maintain professional relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, state agencies, governmental organizations, and community partners. The position also coordinates advocacy efforts, prepares legislative analyses and briefings, and works closely with City leadership to support the City’s strategic priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, government, public policy, business administration, communications, law, or a closely related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in governmental relations, legislative affairs, public policy, lobbying, advocacy, or a related field.
- Direct experience working with state-level government, legislative offices, state agencies, or governmental organizations.
- Experience monitoring legislation, developing legislative strategies, and communicating policy recommendations to elected officials or executive leadership.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with legislators, legislative staff, governmental officials, and community stakeholders.
- Strong written, verbal, research, presentation, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to travel and attend meetings or legislative activities outside normal business hours as needed.
Experience working with the Texas Legislature, Texas Capitol, municipalities, public agencies, or statewide governmental associations is highly preferred.
