Description
Position Overview:
The City of Austin manages over $4 billion across multiple fixed-income investment portfolios. This position plays a key role in supporting the City’s investment strategy and financial stewardship responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the Portfolio Management System daily for the City’s $4.0 billion fixed income portfolio. Document and verify all direct investment trades, interest payments, call, maturities, money markets, and Local Government Investment Pool transactions.
- Investment Reporting and Accounting – Prepare investment accounting entries and standard reports for all funds – which requires meeting monthly deadlines
- Investment Trading – Facilitate daily investment trading with the City’s Custodian by recording trades in on-line platform, monitoring trade settlement, and coordinating and resolving any potential trade issues with the custodian and/or City’s broker/dealers. Assist with Investment market research on investments.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to Finance, Accounting, or Economics, plus four (4) years of experience in a related field.
- Graduation with a Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or Public Administration or other relevant field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
- A five (5) year accounting (MAcy) degree or CPA designation may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of fixed income accounting
- Knowledge of PFIA Texas Government Code 2256
- Experience in governmental fund accounting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Preferred certifications: CPA, CTP
- Ability to travel to more than one work location
