- GEUS Transmission & Distribution Operator
Description
FUNCTION: Submit Day-Ahead and Real-Time resource plans and ancillary service bids daily to QSE under the direction of the Energy Market Manager. Responsible for monitoring and controlling transmission, substation and distribution facilities to ensure all facilities loadings are within ratings. Monitor system conditions and direct restoration of electrical service during abnormal and/or emergency outages on both the transmission and distribution system. Work with other System Operators, Substation employees, T&D employees, TMPA and ERCOT to maintain a safe and reliable system. Responds to system conditions and performs activities according to policies and procedures in conformance with Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Texas Reliability Entity (TRE), North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), and Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) operating guidelines.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor the transmission and distribution system through the use of SCADA
- Submit the Day-Ahead plans on a daily basis to QSE
- Update Energy Market Manager and QSE of any know unit outages or issues
- Maintain accurate market spreadsheets for settlements and historical data
- Coordinate the restoration of service to transmission, substation and distribution facilities to reduce customer outage time and restore system integrity
- Maintain working knowledge of desk manuals, policies and procedures
- Draft, execute, and log switching order activities
- Submit and update Transmission outages to ERCOT
- Provide Energy Market Manager and CSO of any ERCOT daily hotline notices
- Maintain accurate operator notes and daily operator logs
- Maintain and update the transmission and distribution maps in the operation center
- Answer and dispatch trouble calls for GEUS electric, cable and internet, and city utility services as needed
- Attend Annual Operator training seminar and Annual Black Start training at ERCOT
- Complete 32 hours of emergency operations training annually
- Document outage information in outage database
- Monitor weather and notifies crews of approaching storms
- Controls electric transmission equipment in a safe and reliable manner in compliance with NERC, TRE, and ERCOT policies, procedures, and standards
Complete necessary training and review NERC Certification materials provided as needed to obtain NERC Certification. The primary responsibilities only include essential functions of the job and does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instruction and to perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor or management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Ability to become NERC Certified within 6 months of hire date
- This position is posted at the non-NERC certified pay rate. Applicants who hold a current NERC certification may qualify for a higher starting pay rate.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to work under stressful conditions
- Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift
- Ability to learn to comply with applicable NERC, TRE, and ERCOT policies, protocols, guidelines, record keeping and retention requirements
- Basic Computer Skills to include word processing, Microsoft Excel and Teams Instant Messenger
- Familiarity with the ERCOT System preferred
- Familiarity with SCADA and transmission/distribution systems preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Previous Transmission system operations or related field experience preferred
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a computer workstation.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions in order to use a computer keyboard, test equipment and operate hand tools
- Be able to climb a six-foot platform ladder to make changes to wall maps in control room
