Description
The City of Big Spring, Texas has an opening for Golf Course Manager for the Comanche Trail Golf Course. The job is a full-time position. The eighteen-hole course has a full-time crew of eight while expanding to ten during the summer season. We require a good and positive attitude with the willingness to learn new things. The candidate will be joining a hard working but veteran maintenance team.
Minimum Requirements
- An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in horticulture, golf course management, recreation services, business administration, public administration or related field.
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in golf course management, including two (2) years of managing both golf course and Pro Shop simultaneously with some supervisory responsibility.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain applicable state pesticide applicator license within twelve (12) months.
- A credit check will be conducted on all applicants under final consideration for this position.
Annual Salary
$66,404-$82,929 DOE

Job Duties
- Oversees turf maintenance of greens, roughs, fairways, and surrounding landscaping to conform to U.S. Golf Association Standards.
- Plans and implements cultivation programs and disease, insect, and weed control programs to ensure optimal playing surfaces under a wide variety of conditions.
- Designs and maintains the landscaping of the acreage surrounding the greens, fairways, and roughs.
- Assists in the design of modifications to golf greens and fairways.
- Provides technical expertise such as reviewing test results of soil and turf samples, directing the application of fertilizer, insecticide, and fungicide, and dealing with weather-related problems such as heat, floods, windstorms, and freezes.
- Operates and maintains computerized irrigation system.
- Maintains detailed records and reports of turf maintenance activities.
- Monitors and administers the annual operating budget to ensure expenses remain within budget allocations.
- Develops Employee work schedules and assigns duties to staff; trains, evaluates, and disciplines employees as needed.
- Determines and purchases all necessary chemicals and supplies and maintains purchasing records.
- Initiates and/or approves requisitions, work orders, and schedules to ensure proper coordination of activities.
- Manages tournaments and outings for groups, manages scheduled tee times, and maintains golf cart fleet.
- Communicates with golfers, golf associations, vendors, and other interested parties to ensure turf management is coordinated with tournaments and other activities.
- Promotes the Comanche Trail Golf Course; invites professional golfers, golf superintendents, and amateurs to play on the course and in local tournaments.
- Participates in long-range planning events.
- Establishes and enforces safety rules for employees and for golfers while on golf course property.
- Writes specifications and provides technical assistance in the purchase of necessary equipment.
- May be on call after hours to respond to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work.
- Associate’s Degree in Golf Course Turf Management or related field, plus three (3) years of experience supervising golf course grounds. Experience may substitute for education up to two (2) years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain applicable state pesticide applicator license within twelve (12) months.
- Credit checks will be conducted on all applicants under final consideration for this position.
