SUMMARY
The Human Resources Risk & Leave Coordinator supports the City’s risk management and medical leave of absence programs by ensuring consistent administration, compliance, and documentation across all cases. Working under the general supervision of the Risk Manager/ADA Coordinator, this role helps safeguard organizational practices by coordinating leave requests, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting riskrelated initiatives. Through effective communication, process coordination, and adherence to legal requirements, the position strengthens the City’s ability to manage employee needs while minimizing organizational risk.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Coordinates the City’s medical leave of absence programs—occupational and nonoccupational—by supporting employees, departments, and medical providers, administering FMLA compliance, monitoring modified duty, and facilitating safe and timely returntowork outcomes.
- Oversees the City’s workers’ compensation and liability claims processes, including identifying and pursuing subrogation opportunities to ensure accurate and lawful recovery of costs.
- Administers modified duty and returntowork programs—occupational and nonoccupational.
- Provides guidance to departments, managers, employees, and the public regarding risk management concerns, resolving inquiries and ensuring consistent application of policies and procedures.
- Maintains accurate records, documentation, and confidential personnel information in compliance with City policies and state and federal laws; prepares reports, correspondence, and data summaries as required.
- Supports organizational safety and risk practices by administering the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program, assigning online risk and safety training, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
- Tracks insurable assets, including vehicles, equipment, and property, ensuring accurate inventory and values for organizational risk management.
- Assists in monitoring progress of employees in the CDL EntryLevel Driver Training Program (ELDT) and ensures related compliance documentation is maintained.
- Reviews departmental forms and documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with City rules, regulations, and best practices.
- Maintains collaborative and positive working relationships with City departments, managers, peers, and the public to support effective program operations.
- Supports departmentsponsored events such as the employee expo, safety coach activities, and related meetings.
- Participates in training and professional development to remain current on regulatory changes, industry standards, and best practices in medical leave administration and risk management.
- Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in a closely related field.
- Three (3) years of closely related work experience, preferably in state or local government setting.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job may be considered.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with database systems (such as Tyler Munis System, Employee Self-Service (ESS), Laserfiche Paperless electronic document management, LMS, etc.
