Description
JOB SUMMARY:
An individual in this position is responsible for and performs skilled repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance on all building electrical and HVAC control systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs skilled repairs and preventive maintenance as well as installation and modification on all types of building electrical systems including HVAC control systems.
- Works with minimum supervision and makes decisions regarding safe and effective repair methods.
- Works on ladders and water towers at extreme heights.
- Reads and understands written job instructions.
- Works effectively and courteously with other employees.
- Drives between job sites and vendor locations.
- Reads blueprints and schematic drawings.
- Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.
- Orders parts and equipment, and interfaces with electrical and mechanical contractors on behalf of the City of Texas City.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Two (2) years of related experience;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Graduate of trade school or apprenticeship program in electrical preferred.
- Must have a City of Texas City Journeyman Electrician License or able to obtain within 12 months of employment.
- Experience as a journeyman electrician preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
- Skill in effective time management and resource utilization.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to research, compile and summarize a variety of information and statistical data.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees, management, and citizens.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is heavy which requires exerting up to 150 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Lifts and carries up to 100 pounds. Pushes, pulls, and drags up to 150 lbs. of repair equipment. Kneels, stoops, squats, stands, twists, bends, walks, crawls for extended periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily performed in an outdoor environment with some tasks taking place indoors. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving. Works in tight and enclosed areas. Works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather. Some exposure to chemical, dust, fumes, toxic waste, mechanical electrical and explosive hazards, using property safety precautions.
