Job Description:
The Part-Time Mechanic reports directly to the Chief Mechanic and will work 20 hours per week. Duties include the maintenance and repair of various vehicles and equipment; clean and maintain shop, wash vehicles, pickup parts and vehicles from different locations, assist mechanics as needed and all other duties assigned.
Requirements
Tasks Performed Include:
1. Pickup parts and vehicles from various locations;
2. Repair/replace worn, broken or malfunctioning parts;
3. Service vehicles and equipment as needed;
4. Prepares vehicles for State Inspections;
5. Repair/replace flat tires;
6. Wash and clean City vehicles;
7. Cleans and maintains shop area;
8. Utilizes proper safety precautions and procedures related to work performed;
9. Performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the Chief Mechanic and Director of Public Works.

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Vocational school or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the modern methods used in repairing, maintaining, and adjusting vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge of the operation of tools and equipment commonly used in vehicle and equipment repair.
Knowledge of safety standards and practices.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Good customer service skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive large and small mechanical equipment and vehicles, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb, twist, reach, push and pull; and the employee may be required to lift, carry and/or move objects weighing 10-25 lbs. frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working conditions vary from inside to outside with occasional exposure to temperature variations.
The employee has frequent contact with City employees and citizens; is required to interact with employees at other agencies and organizations; and must remain calm and professional in tense, emotionally charged, and stressful situations. The employee may face difficult and stressful situations; and may be required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, to change tasks frequently, to perform tedious and exacting work, and to work closely with others as part of a team. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position working approximately 20 hours per week. The work schedule is subject to change depending on the needs of the department and the City. Overtime is required upon demand.
Travel
An employee in this position is required to drive a vehicle to complete daily work assignments, attend various meetings, functions, and events. May be required to travel out of town to represent the City at meetings and conferences and for training.
Pre-Employment Testing
