Part-time Permit Clerk
About the Role
The City of Katy is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Part-time Permit Clerk to join our Permit/Inspection team. In this role, you'll serve as a key point of contact for residents, contractors, and visitors while supporting the processing of permits and daily administrative operations.
What You'll Do
Deliver excellent customer service in person and over the phone
Process permit applications, issue permits, and maintain accurate records
Receive and reconcile payments, balance cash, and prepare deposits
Schedule pre-construction meetings and coordinate appointments
Track permit activity and notify contractors of expirations
Perform clerical tasks including data entry, filing, and mail distribution
Support overall office operations and assist with special projects as needed
What You Bring
High school diploma or GED required
At least 2 years of customer service or clerical experience (municipal experience a plus)
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
Proficiency with computers and standard office software
Additional Details
May require a valid Texas driver's license
Work is performed in a standard office environment
This role is designated as an Essential Critical Infrastructure position

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent; AND two (2) years of customer service or clerical experience, preferably within a municipal government; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
- Filing and Classification Systems
- Construction terminology, preferred
Skill in:
- Operating a personal computer, standard software, and standard office equipment.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Maintaining a filing system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office environment.
