Description
Summary
Responsible for a full range of professional duties including research, data management, analysis, contribution to proposal development; preparation of staff reports and documents while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Composes correspondence and staff reports for the Historic Preservation Board, Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council
- Implements the City’s historic preservation ordinance and promotes preservation efforts through designation of local historic landmarks and the heritage marker program
- Focuses on City’s redevelopment areas, promotes infill housing construction and other neighborhood-scaled uses
- Evaluates adequacy of City’s housing in meeting current and projected needs; recommends priorities, schedules, and funding sources to implement improvements
- Assists in preparing and making presentations to the Historic Preservation Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council, and Zoning Board of Adjustment. Makes presentations to Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council, Zoning Board of Adjustment and other boards and groups as needed
- Conducts meetings with citizens, private developers, and actively participates in community-based charrettes to resolve complex issues
- Prepares reports, projects, and exhibits as directed. Participates in preparation of long-range planning studies, corridor studies, and Comprehensive Plan updates
- Fosters the public process to include but not limited to rezoning, conditional use permits, platting, planned developments, neighborhood plan initiatives, historic preservation recommendations, and variances
- Posts signs on subject properties related to land use file applications; acts as Project Manager for land use case files
- Assists with building permit review of new land development projects to ensure compliance with various City ordinances
- Acts as a liaison between community members, government agencies, developers, and elected officials
- Follows City financial policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Public Administration, or related area
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning
- Experience with municipal planning
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid driver’s license
