Description
The City of Newton, Texas, is looking for a person that will be able to work and deal with all kinds of situations, from animal issues to homicides. The City of Newton has approximately 1900 citizens and is located with traveling distance of lakes and hunting clubs. Newton Police Department is an agency that offers a place to get your start as a police officer, and/or an agency to supplement your retirement. The Newton Police Department has four officer(s) including the Chief Of Police. The Chief of Police is a working Chief. The department works two different type shift(s); Day shift is 8a-5p with Mondays and Tuesdays off; Night Shift 5p-5a working five on five off; two on two off. \The selected officer will be required to patrol the city, respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, perform traffic enforcement and investigations; enforce the law fairly and equitably.
Present a positive image of the Newton Police Department using tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
Communicate courteously with the general public.
Make sound decisions using knowledge, training, and experience.
Prepare and submit written reports of patrol and investigative activities.
Make arrests when required and conduct criminal investigations when needed.
Testify completely and accurately in criminal proceedings.
Currently in the process of increasing the pay.
Requirements
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum age of 21.
Valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
Current TCOLE license
Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Police methods and procedures, including patrol, crime prevention, traffic control, investigation, and identification techniques, and first aid techniques.
Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
Knowledge of current best practices in policing including relational policing.
Knowledge of proper care and use of firearms and ensure basic maintenance on patrol vehicles.
Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports.
Provide excellent public relations and customer service.
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship will all levels of City of Newton management, City officials, police personnel, other employees, and the public.
