Patrol Officer – Full-Time
The Troup Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Patrol Officer. Applicants must be currently licensed as a Texas Peace Officer by TCOLE.
The starting salary is $56,535 annually, with opportunities for certificate pay and lateral pay credit for up to nine years of qualifying experience. Longevity pay increases are provided every two years for up to nineteen years of service.
Benefits include participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System with a 2:1 city match at a 5% employee contribution rate, as well as comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.

Requirements
Requirements and Essential Duties
Police Officers patrol assigned areas to deter crime, identify suspicious activity, and provide security for emergency personnel. Duties include responding to calls for service, enforcing traffic laws and applicable local, state, and federal statutes, conducting investigations, collecting evidence, preparing reports, making arrests, serving warrants and protective orders, and testifying in court. Officers also engage in community outreach, collaborate with other agencies, participate in problem-solving initiatives, maintain departmental standards and professionalism, and complete ongoing training to enhance law enforcement skills. Regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to perform additional assigned duties are essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Successful candidates possess knowledge of city geography, Texas criminal justice procedures, investigative techniques, hazardous materials, first aid and CPR, criminal and juvenile law, and records management. They must be able to interpret laws and regulations, exercise sound judgment under stress, communicate effectively with diverse populations, gather and analyze evidence, operate firearms and emergency vehicles safely, use computers and standard software applications, follow written and verbal instructions, and prepare clear, accurate, and professional reports.
