Lateral Pay - 3-4 years - $76,457, 5-6 years - $77,720, 7 or more years - $80,246

The City of Shenandoah participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System. At 20 years, the City matches 2:1, vested after 5 years.
Officer Incentives
TCOLE Certification Pay
Intermediate Peace Officer $2,000 a year
Advance Peace Officer $3,200 a year
Master Peace Officer $4,400 a year
Education Pay
Associate's Degree $50 a month
Bachelor’s Degree $200 a month
Master’s Degree $300 a month

Take Home Car After Probation
The Department provides Patrol Uniforms and Duty Gear.
Patrol works the 12-hour, 2-3-2 Shifts with every other 3-day weekend off.
1.5 hours, on duty time, to work out in the employee gym.
City-issued cell phone. Take-home car after probation.
Beards and Tattoos are acceptable.
College Tuition & Book Reimbursement. Restrictions apply
Longevity Pay - $5 per month of service, paid yearly.
Officer Gun Buy Back Program – An Eligible employee is allowed to purchase a duty-approved firearm (handgun, rifle, or shotgun) once a year. Restrictions apply
Night Shift Differential - $250 a month
Field Training Officer - 1 hour OT per training shift
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age on the date of hire.
- High School Graduate or High School Equivalency Certificate.
- Licensed TEXAS Police Officer (TCOLE) or within 60 days of graduation from an approved TEXAS Police Academy.
- If an out of Texas Police Officer, see "Out of State Peace Officer" TCOLE requirements.
- Have a valid Texas Driver License (at the date of hire).
- Citizen of the United States by birth or naturalization.
- Able to read, write and speak the English language.
- Must be of a good moral character.
- Not prohibited by State or Federal law from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
- Pass the required physical agility and gun range course.
- Pass a written exam (POST) with minimum a score of 70, in each section (4).
- Pass extensive background investigation.
- Pass an Oral Interview Board.
- Interview with the Chief of Police
- Successfully complete a post-job Psychological Exam, Medical Exam and Drug Screening.
