Description
This position works under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer. The Parks & Operations Intern assists with maintenance, landscaping, and operational support of city parks, public grounds, and facilities, gaining valuable experience in municipal services.
Requirements
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with the maintenance of parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields.
Performs landscape care, including mowing, edging, planting, watering, and trimming.
Aids in playground inspections and minor repairs to park equipment.
Supports setup, tear-down, and logistics for city-sponsored special events.
Collects and disposes of litter and debris in parks and public spaces.
Assists in minor facility maintenance tasks such as painting, basic carpentry, and custodial work.
Operates small hand tools, lawn maintenance equipment, and light machinery under supervision.
Adheres to safety guidelines and practices safe work habits at all times.
Performs other duties as assigned to enhance park and facility operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Basic landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.
Safe use of hand tools and basic landscaping equipment.
Skill in:
Performing physical work outdoors.
Following safety procedures and operational guidelines.
Ability to:
Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely.
Maintain tools and equipment in clean and operable condition.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Represent the City positively when interacting with the public.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Outdoor work environment subject to heat, cold, rain, and other weather extremes.
Frequent physical labor, lifting, bending, and prolonged standing or walking.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Interest in parks management, landscaping, or public works operations preferred.
