- Public Works Equipment Operator

JOB SUMMARY:
Provides the equipment operational support associated with the operations and maintenance of the Town streets, wastewater collection system, parks and right-of-ways under the direct supervision of the Public Works Superintendent and the Public Works Director, which includes manual labor, shop work, small equipment repair and storage. Vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance, operation of hauling equipment, operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system, light construction, and operation of light and heavy equipment in the repair of Town streets, drainage, structures, bridges, etc.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Drives light trucks hauling gravel, dirt and asphalt.
2. Proficiently operates all types of construction equipment utilized by the Town.
3. Operates light and heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of Town streets and right-of-ways.
4. Cuts brush, mows grass and picks up trash along Town streets and Town facilities and grounds.
5. Services and repairs all equipment as assigned.
6. Patches streets and cleans culverts.
7. Repair, clean and clears obstructions from storm drains and ditches.
8. Assists with inspection and replacement of street signs and posts.
9. Assists with mechanical, building and bridge repairs.
10. Performs work in compliance with accepted industry safety standards.
11. Serves as the Crew Leader on Town job sites and works as part of a wastewater crew, excavate, inspect, flush, clean and repair sewer mains, installs or repairs taps, lines and laterals.
12. Must be able to satisfactorily operate the various types of light and heavy equipment utilized by the Town.
13. Monitors wastewater lift stations and collection system.
14. Must have knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to the Public Works Department.
15. Good communication skills.
16. Ability to read and write.
17. Ability to learn quickly and take direction from supervisors.
18. Regular and punctual attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain safety of the public and other employees at all times.
2. Participate in Special Town events as required.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Certificates/Licenses/Eligibility:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
- Two (2) years of previous experience in construction mechanics, or equipment operation is required and previous experience in construction, street maintenance (concrete and asphalt) repair or construction work experience is also required.
- Prefer a minimum Class “I” Collections System Certification issued by the or must obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
- Class ‘II” certification will be required within 3 years of employment.
- Must have a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
