Overview
The Radio Network Engineer leads, supports, and designs the requirements and blueprint preparation, testing, and implementation of the radio network systems for the department.
Essential Functions
1 Designs, selects, tests, assembles, and standardizes the technology model for use in determining radio network system hardware and software requirements; engineers and builds network specifics to support radio programs, equipment, and systems.
2 Determines, implements, and migrates technology models across the organization; works with department and personnel to educate and support radio network usage.
3 Performs business modeling and systems engineering for the radio network.
4 Provides and manages communication and education to information systems personnel on the technology model.
5 Assists and supports in defining business requirements to meet technology needs in providing a secured, robust, reliable and efficient infrastructure facilitating effective radio systems and network services.
6 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

1 Knowledge of technology trends in order to support current and future radio network and systems administration.
2 Knowledge of business functions, application modeling, prototyping and migration planning.
3 Knowledge of organizational and problem-solving skills.
4 Ability to make sound decisions and situational analysis.
5 Ability to engineer radio networks and provide direction and technical insight.
6 Ability to identify and translate needs into sound systems and equipment.
7 Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) years of experience working on and supporting any of the following:
two-way radio communications systems
proprietary or standards-based trunked radio systems
conventional analog or digital radio systems
public safety or public service two-way radio
Two (2) years performing the duties of a trunked systems administrator. (Administrator experience may be concurrent with the experience above.)
AND
Experience developing complex two-way radio programming code plugs/programming files.
EQUIVALENCIES:
Associate degree (or higher) in an electronic technology or computer science field or electrical engineering plus four (4) years of the required experience including two (2) years performing the duties of a trunked systems administrator experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE and CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid driver's license and good driving record
FCC General Radio Operators License or General Communications Technician 1 and 2 (can be obtained within the first six months of service).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Familiarity with FCC rules and regulations for two-way radio systems to include analog and digital trunked radio systems.
Experience developing complex two-way radio programming codeplugs/programming files.
No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.
No class B misdemeanor conviction within the last ten (10) years.
No family violence convictions.
Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A misdemeanor or class B misdemeanor charge.
PREFERENCES:
Experience with networking, microwave systems or server maintenance is preferred.
Experience with networking, microwave systems or server maintenance is preferred
Experience with Motorola UEM, PRNM Suite and other system specific software that manages a Project 25 radio system
KMF Management experience
Salary Range
$70,075.20 - $87,609.60
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
