Description
Drives a rear-loader sanitation vehicle and collects and disposes of solid waste in residential areas.
Requirements
Duties
- Drives a rear-loader sanitation vehicle and collects and disposes of solid waste from residential containers.
- Collects and disposes of yard waste and large, bulky items.
- Travels to and from the transfer station to dispose of waste materials.
- Clears alleys to provide adequate space for collection vehicles.
- Maintains and inspects vehicles and performs required safety checks.
- Maintains records of work performed for supervisory review, including vehicle checklists, trip logs, Department of Transportation logs, and repair reports.
- Substitutes in other sanitation positions as needed.
Qualifications
- One year of experience in the collection of waste materials preferred.
- Valid Texas Class C driver's license required at time of hire.
- Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
Supplemental Information
- Knowledge of the processes used in the collection and disposal of waste materials. Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions. Skill in the use of various equipment and machinery, such as hand and power tools and heavy equipment used in disposal activities, including compactors, lifts, claws, and hydraulic systems, as well as shovels, brooms, and rakes.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Ability to bend, climb, and lift repeatedly in order to collect materials. Ability to regularly lift 40 to 60 pounds. Employee will work in extreme temperatures and around mechanical, chemical, and environmental hazards, including contaminated materials.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees and citizens who inquire about disposal procedures. Ability to work with citizens who may have complaints about services provided.
*This position is eligible for CDL Certification Pay of $80 per week for employees who hold a valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
