- Senior Building Inspector
Description
The Senior Building Inspector shall be responsible for the practical application of the City of Dripping Springs’ (the “City”) building codes through field inspection and plan review. The Senior Building Inspector (“this position”) will operate under the direction and management of the City Building Official.
This position will interface with City management and other departmental employees. This position will interact directly with builders, architects, developers, and sub-contractors who are doing business with the City. This position shall carry out all responsibilities in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, City codes, City ordinances, and state and federal regulations.
Works under the general direction of the Building Official.
Requirements
The Senior Building Inspector shall have the following essential duties and responsibilities:
1. Complete regular Residential Building Plan reviews.
2. Use the web-based permitting system.
3. Evaluate and complete construction plans and/or specifications for compliance with City code and International Building Codes.
4. Identify and provide comments regarding residential construction plans that do not meet code compliance.
5. Advise applicants on ways and methods to bring proposed residential building into compliance with City code and building code.
6. Work collaboratively to provide technical assistance to other department staff regarding code interpretation, permitting functions, inspection requirements, and construction specifications.
7. Coordinate projects with City staff and other outside agencies where applicable. (i.e. Permit Technician, Code Enforcement Officer, Public Works Director, Contractors, utility agency’s – DSWSC, Etc.)
8. Maintain current knowledge of issues, trends, and development in regulatory standards and building code requirements governing the construction industry.
9. Assist the Building Official with implementation of departmental procedures, training coordination, and amendments to construction codes.
10. Complete adequate documentation of any conducted inspections.
11. Comply with the current City building code on all residential projects. (i.e. new construction, additions, alterations, and standalone permit work done by subcontractors).
12. Performs administrative and technical work while directing inspections.
13. Attends/conducts pre-construction meetings when necessary.
14. Attends staff and board/commission/committee/City Council meetings as needed.
15. Lead, coach, and mentor subordinate inspectors; assist with inspectors attaining and maintaining certifications and training and understanding of adopted codes and other applicable construction knowledge.
16. Investigates complaints and citizen requests on construction activity and may issue Notices of Violations, to include Stop Work Orders and Dangerous Building notices, as required. Helps coordinate inspections with enforcement actions as needed.
17. In the absence of the Building Official, analyzes and makes inspection decisions based on project information received.
18. Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive, professional and effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
19. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required certifications include:
- ICC Residential Combination Certification
- Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners – Plumbing Inspector Certification
- Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of building construction.
- General local government laws and practices.
- Inspection Anywhere program.
- Basic report writing and data compilation.
