- Street Maintenance Crew Lead
Description
SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, leads and assists the Streets Crew in the maintenance of streets, bridges, medians, gutters, curbs, sidewalks, and other public areas within the City. Evaluates, tracks, and maintains records of pavement conditions. Reviews street complaints, evaluates road conditions, and performs pavement repairs as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Responsible for the activities of the crew to ensure appropriate and timely completion of maintenance and projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manages the Street Crew, including assigning and completing work orders; performs quality control to ensure work meets standards.
- Performs street maintenance, including pothole repairs and crack sealing.
- Collects and removes debris from streets and right-of-way areas.
- Performs street striping, sign installation, and repair.
- Cleans storm drain inlets and flumes as needed.
- Performs concrete pours and builds forms for concrete projects.
- Shovels, rakes, tamps, and levels asphalt.
- Implements work-zone traffic control.
- Lead crews in winter weather operations.
- Performs right-of-way maintenance as needed, including mowing, weed eating, and tree trimming.
- Places traffic control devices, traffic calming devices, radar signs, and message boards as requested.
- Performs general maintenance of Public Works equipment, including barricade maintenance, filling sandbags, and maintaining materials inventory.
- Maintains recordkeeping and maintenance logs, both written and electronic.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Must be able to wear City-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Most work is performed in an outdoor environment that may include inclement weather. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. In all cases, appropriate procedures and PPE will be utilized.

Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic devices, and utility location equipment.
- Ability to prioritize projects with strong attention to detail while meeting required deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License required.
- Must possess or obtain within one (1) year of employment, a valid Texas Class A CDL Driver’s License.
OR
- Any combination of related education and experience that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job. *
*Obtaining a valid Class A CDL Driver’s License is required within one (1) year of employment.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Two (2) years of paid professional street maintenance experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must pass a driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
- Must be able to work overtime and emergency call back as needed or determined by the business needs of the department.
