- Street Maintenance Worker I
Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
To perform work necessary for the maintenance and repair of city streets, parking lots, drainage facilities and right-of-ways.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position receives general supervision from the Street Department Crew leader. This position does not supervise any other positions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Assists in maintenance and repair operations including, but not limited to, pot hole repair, utility cut repair, crack sealing, overlays, reconstruction, drainage facility cleaning, barricade construction, de-icing, street sweeping and vegetation control.
- Operates equipment used in maintenance and repair of city streets and right-of-ways
- Makes oral reports regarding daily progress
- Maintains building and grounds housing the street department
- Performs minor welding activities when required
- Mow, weed eat and clean right-of-way and drainage areas
- Install and replace street signs
- Assists in other department activities as needed
- Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed
- Work weekends, holidays and special events as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED; some construction-related experience is preferred; knowledge of backhoe, crack sealer, dump truck, front-end loader, jackhammer and various hand tools.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Valid Class C Texas driver license; CDL preferred
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer terminal and city vehicle
- Walk, stand, or sit, for prolonged periods of time
- Regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry up 10 pounds
- Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds or more
- Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
- Operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard
- Speak and hear to exchange information in English
- Operate a vehicle to travel to various locations
