Position Summary:
The Streets Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of city streets, sidewalks, signage, and other public infrastructure in the City of Granite Shoals. This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of the city's streets and infrastructure by performing routine inspections, addressing maintenance needs, and assisting with emergency repairs. The role requires hands-on work with equipment, tools, and machinery to support public safety and the smooth operation of city services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Street Maintenance and Repair:
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on city streets, including filling potholes, sealing cracks, patching asphalt, and repairing concrete. - Maintain and repair sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and storm drains.
- Install, repair, and replace street signage, road markings, and guardrails.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Safely operate light and heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, and asphalt rollers, to carry out street maintenance tasks.
- Perform basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergencies such as road obstructions, flooding, or hazardous street conditions, including after-hours and on weekends, as required.
- Assist in clearing streets of debris, fallen trees, and other hazards.
- Set up and manage traffic control devices, such as barricades and cones, to ensure safe working conditions for crews and the public during maintenance activities.
- Direct traffic as necessary during roadwork and emergency operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of streets and related infrastructure to identify needed repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance.
- Report any issues that require further attention to the Streets Crew Leader.
- Work with other Public Works employees, contractors, and city departments to complete street maintenance and improvement projects.
- Assist with other public works projects as needed, including parks maintenance and water system repairs.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in street maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Texas driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of road construction, maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Experience in operation and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and equipment (backhoe, excavator, skid steer, dump truck, etc.).
- Understanding of traffic control and safety procedures.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Basic mechanical skills for maintaining equipment and tools.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Push, pull, dig, rake, shovel, and perform repetitive manual tasks.
Work around moving equipment, machinery, traffic, insects, wildlife, and waterfront environments.
Work Environment:
Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions, with exposure to noise, dirt, and potentially hazardous materials.
Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and safety vests.
Occasional overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required during emergencies.
