SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER (Certified Peace Officer)
The City of Kennedale, Texas (pop. 10,233) Police Department is seeking a School Resource Officer. Kennedale is located just southeast of Fort Worth. We are a family-oriented community providing a refuge from the hectic pace of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. We’re looking for a dedicated and community-minded School Resource Officer to serve as a trusted presence within our schools. This role goes beyond traditional policing. You’ll be a mentor, a protector, and a key partner in creating a secure, supportive environment where students can thrive.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring campus safety through active observation, proactive engagement, and quick response to potential threats
- Serving as the first responder during emergencies, helping protect students and staff when it matters most
- Mediating student conflicts and guiding young people to understand the consequences of their actions
- Collaborating with school staff and parents to address behavioral concerns and support student well-being
- Investigating incidents on campus, gathering information, and preparing clear, professional reports
- Engaging in community policing, including responding to calls, enforcing laws, and supporting public safety initiatives when assigned to patrol
- Representing the department in court and assisting with legal processes when needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification as a Texas Peace Officer (TCLEOSE)
- A valid Texas driver’s license
- School Resource Officer certification (or the ability to obtain it)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to remain calm, observant, and decisive in high-pressure situations
- A high standard of integrity, reliability, and accountability
- Must pass a polygraph exam, in depth background investigation, a physical exam / drug screening, and psychological assessment prior to hiring
SALARY
The starting salary for this position is $70,096 and is subject to the city’s public safety step plan
